The family of Dr. Frederick Douglas Reese, a civil rights icon, educator, and Pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church is committed to continuing his legacy into 2022 and beyond. Born in 1929, Dr. Reese was best known for his role as the President of the Dallas County Voters League (DCVL) from 1964 to 1965. Dr. Reese was the leader of the Selma Voting Rights Movement and personally invited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Selma to fight for equal voting rights for African Americans. It was his commitment to equal rights that led Dr. Reese and the DCVL to lead the march from Selma to Montgomery. His dedication and persistence laid the foundation for passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in voting.
Today, the family of Dr. and Mrs. Reese, whom he was faithfully devoted to from 1953 until his passing in 2018, are proud to continue his legacy through the fight for equality.
