Interview With Dreamer

What is your name/stage name?

ANSWER: My name is Joseph Hatabia and I go by the stage name Dreamer.

Where are you from?

ANSWER: Firstly, I’m oceanic, specifically Melanesian and I come from the Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea.

What do you do?

ANSWER: I’m a full on music producer, slowly but steadily transitioning into DJing.

How long have you been making music?

ANSWER: Music has been a part of my life since I can remember, in terms of learning and playing musical instruments or just plain old listening to music. But producing my own tracks from scraps using an actual DAW from the beginning to the present, I’d say two years.

Who’s your biggest inspiration?

ANSWER: To be honest, I’ve had a lot of inspiration over the years shaping my present musical style, but the one that stands out would have to be Michael Jackson. I know he’s not categorised under the same genre as I am, but his voice and musical dynamics has had a lasting impact on me since my early childhood. I even taught myself to dance, trying to emulate him.

What genre of music do you create?

ANSWER: I currently produce EDM, specifically House, Trap and Future Bass. I’m also looking to venture into other sub genres like Dubstep and potentially other main line genres as well.

What was it like working with (collabs?)

ANSWER: To be honest, as an upcoming artist I haven’t had many opportunities to collaborate with other artists. Occasionally I do request to record vocals(mainly short phrases) from friends to use in some of my tracks. But overall legit collaborations with other artists are minimal at the moment.

What are some features you have?

ANSWER: Nah, I’m running a one man show at the moment.

What are some features you want to get?

ANSWER: Kid Ink, Tyga, Marshmello and Chris Brown are at the top of my list (hopefully).

Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?

ANSWER: Chris Brown, I’m just such a huge fan and because I’m a music producer, his vocals would make for a great song.

Are you signed to a label?

ANSWER: Currently, No. That’s one of my major goals at the moment. If I do get signed, I think that would be the best thing to happen in my career as a musician.

Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?

ANSWER: As I mentioned earlier, my main goal at the moment is to get a record deal with a label and a good one at that.

Who are your biggest supporters?

ANSWER: My family stands at the top of that list, my mom especially, supporting me and encouraging me at every step of the way. Never give up, keep trying and think positive, that’s what she always says.

Where did your name come from?

ANSWER: The name Dreamer is very special to me, coming from a Christian background. The name sort of has a biblical principle or backstory to it. My first name is Joseph that’s why I chose the name Dreamer, in reference to the old testament Joseph the Dreamer, son of Jacob.

What are you currently working on?

ANSWER: Well, there’s a lot going on at the moment, I have a couple of projects still on the table. Mainly House bangers and Future Bass tracks still in the works.

What is your latest release?

ANSWER: Just recently, I released two progressive house tracks, titled “Cheeky Bounce” and “Need you” respectively. Please feel free to check them out.

When is your next release?

ANSWER: Nearing completion is a project titled “See me through”, hopefully I should be releasing it in the next month or so.
