Interview With Upcoming Artist Alan Lee Waddell

What is your name/stage name?

I just go by Lee Waddell

Where are you from?

I am living in Kelso Washington

What do you do?

I play guitar, compose music, sail a boat, like to build hot rods, build guitars, design airplane parts and build airplanes ( I have one I will probably never finish though ), and fly ultralight airplanes on floats.

How long have you been making music?

Since I was Twelve

Who’s your biggest  inspiration?

I grew up covering works by Creedence Clearwater Revival when I was just a kid and listening to Procol Harum’s A White’r Shade Of Pale from 1967 and Crowded House’s Dont Dream It’s Over on an old AM radio I had gotten in 1968.  I had always Identified with this music having heard it for so long and they were my favorites. However It was only a couple of years ago that I had heard them playing Mike Finn’s song Don’t Dream it’s over on the radio when the DJ announced the song’s release date was 1986 and then it hit me like a ton of bricks, that left me wondering how could this be? It had taken me 34 years to realize I had been listening to this song on that old AM radio for 18 years before the song was released.

What genre of music do you create?

Rock, Blues and borderline Jazz.

What was it like working with (collabs?)

It was great they were all very comfortable with the originality and they each did very well composing thier own part, and when it came time to do the live shows they each performed avidly.

What are some features you have?

I have performed live with the Smoking section an R&B group from Portland Oregon who were the original Marihuana activists that performed at Miss Martinez’s club in downtown Portland Oregon, consiting of my good buddy Lp, lead vocalist and percussionist, Narvy Jones on drums, J Mack who is a hall of fame’r appearing on Soul Train back in the day, lead vocalist,  Wiz, on Keyboard, Dub, lead vocalist, also on keyboard, and whatever Bass guitarist they can get to show up. Another is Guy Live who has also appeared with the Smoking Section and also performs magic.

What are some features you want to get?

Crowded House, Samantha Fisher, the Rolling Stones ( I have a friend whom I haven’t seen in years named Bill Lussendon who played with the Rolling stones during the time Ron Wood was deported as he lived in an apartment in New York with his girlfriend and Ron Wood and his girlfriend so when Ron was deported Ron took Bill’s girlfriend with him back to London leaving Bill with Ron’s girlfriend in the apartment until he got back, so I could imagine Bill could still be playing with them at some point because they all seemed to get along very well and I have always looked up to the Stones.

Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?

That would have to be Jimmy Hendricks as I expect I will be Jammin with Jimmy some time in the future anyway.

Are you signed to a label?

I set a French record lable called, Mondail, up with the recordings from my old band No Excuses and now it is Topic who is out there on the internet keeping the old songs alive.

Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?

Yes I would like a record deal and distribution.

Who are your biggest supporters?

That would have to be the Smoking Section, they are the one’s who get me out there to play lately.

Where did your name come from?

I think my mom came up with it if I’m not mistaken.

What are you currently working on?

I’m writing all new material to record and produce an album.

What is your latest release?
I don’t know if I could call it a release but I have been sharing a recent composition with a lot of new friends on fb. It came to me in it’s entirety so I had to scramble to make it’s first recording not to lose it’s arangement but now I have several more to record.

When is your next release?

That remains to be seen and only time will tell.
