Lizzo isn’t one to shy away from addressing controversy, and she recently took matters into her own hands after Yung Miami’s comments about her weight loss sparked debate. During a livestream with fans, the singer called up the City Girls rapper directly to ask for clarification.
“What is the ‘Ew’? I have to know,” Lizzo pressed, referencing Miami’s previous remarks. In response, Yung Miami explained that her words were misinterpreted and that she was trying to highlight the double standards surrounding body image.
“Damned if you do, damned if you don’t is what I was trying to say,” she explained. “Sometimes I see some people saying, like… ‘She looked better when she was fat.’ […] But you’re doing it for yourself, not for these people.”
Miami also noted that many fans supported Lizzo’s transformation, but she wanted to call out the larger issue—society’s inconsistent beauty standards, where people praise certain body types while criticizing others.
