ASAP Twelvyy, a founding member of the ASAP Mob, has shared some exciting experiences he had with the group, including performing on tour with Drake, learning from ASAP Rocky, and the brotherhood that keeps them united. In an exclusive interview with REVOLT, Twelvyy said Rocky was setting up a whole new life for him, including paying for his passport and travel while he was still learning to be an artist. Twelvyy and Rocky were part of the Drake 2012 “Club Paradise Tour,” where he learned from other big names in the industry such as Kendrick Lamar. “It was dope learning from those guys, man,” he said.
Twelvyy remembers performing with the group on their first show in 2009-2010 at little spots where Rocky was performing his songs. It was during this time that Twelvyy recalls being excited that they had the chance to perform, adding that their energy was all on the stage because they didn’t know what was coming next week.
Twelvyy recalled the Dipset reunion show back in October 2011 when Dipset brought them and Rocky out to perform “Peso.” He mentioned that he stage-dived during the show, saying he did whatever needed to be done to help his brother Rocky get his vision across. Twelvyy also revealed that he had a song with Kendrick Lamar, and backstage was a lot of love, which is where the camaraderie came from.
Twelvyy discussed the roles of each member on stage, explaining that Rocky is the one that sells the tickets, keeps the lights on, and rocks the set creatively and sonically. Meanwhile, Twelvyy is there to raise the energy with the guys and interact with the crowd, as well as doing crowd control.
The group’s brotherhood often leads to pranks and jokes. Twelvyy revealed that the first few years at SXSW, they started getting houses, and if you fell asleep early, they would throw a big bucket of water on you. “There was a point where you couldn’t even sleep around the guys because they were throwing water,” he said.
The group also has some songs that get the craziest reactions when performed live, such as “Peso.” In conclusion, Twelvyy shared his exciting journey with the group, and how being part of the ASAP Mob has been instrumental in his development as an artist.
