Growing up surrounded by diverse musical influences in California, Marquis Ross, better known as EqMuzik, was destined to carve his own path in the world of music. From a young age, he absorbed a rich blend of sounds—from the rhythmic beats of Cumbias and the timeless essence of oldies to the raw energy of California’s iconic rap and hip-hop scene. But what truly ignited his passion was his older cousin, who introduced him to rock and taught him how to play simple melodies on a toy keyboard. It was a humble beginning, but it sparked a lifelong journey into music.
EqMuzik’s story isn’t just about passion—it’s about persistence and growth. While many might have been content to stay local, EqMuzik knew his sound needed to be heard. His breakthrough came in 2022 when Mojoheadz Recordz recognized his talent and offered to distribute one of his instrumentals. From there, the floodgates opened. Posting beats on platforms like RepostExchange, EqMuzik soared to the top of the charts, peaking at #2 with his experimental track “Love Yourself.” The fusion of electronic, blues, R&B, pop, and hip-hop resonated with listeners, leading him to amass over 100k streams on SoundCloud in 2023.
But 2024 was truly the turning point. Collaborating with heavyweights like Zaytoven through the Muzic Money Program, EqMuzik sharpened his business acumen and began to generate sales from his beats, pulling in $1k in his first month. His hustle didn’t go unnoticed—producers like FigurezMadeIt and artists like El Demonio (known for his #1 hit on iTunes’ Blues genre) came calling. And as if that wasn’t enough, his work soon found itself alongside Grammy winners like SZA, Jack Harlow, and Chris Brown.
What sets EqMuzik apart? It’s his versatility. Dubbed a “Super Producer” by those in the know, his work defies genre boundaries, blending melodies and harmonies in ways that challenge yet inspire.
