Freddie Gibbs appears to have taken aim at J. Cole after the Dreamville rapper dropped a new track titled “cLOUDs.”
Premiered on his Algorithm blog on Thursday (February 20), Cole raps:
“I charter unseen territories in order/ To push it farther than you n-ggas had ever thought of/ I caught a lotta murder charges, turned artists/ To martyrs, when I rock, thot turns to goddess.”
Shortly after the song’s release, Gibbs took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple yawn emoji. He then followed up on Instagram via his burner account, youonlydie0nce, writing:
“N-ggaz be rapping about how they kill rappers and kill they careers and blah blah blah but he backing outta rap beefs,” adding laughing, thinking, and yawn emojis.
Many fans believe Gibbs was referencing Cole’s decision to step away from the rumored Kendrick Lamar beef, though he did not mention names.
Interestingly, Gibbs has previously shown admiration for Cole. Back in 2020, he praised Cole’s RS-Dreamer sneakers in a video, even dunking in them and challenging Cole to a game.
Elsewhere, Gibbs also recently called out Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, accusing them of copying his style with their joint album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which shares similarities with his 2022 album $oul $old $eparately.
