Green Day’s Punk Spirit Hits the Big Screen with New Years Rev

Green Day isn’t just keeping the mosh pits alive—they’re stepping into film with a brand-new coming-of-age comedy. The legendary punk trio just dropped the first official trailer and poster for New Years Rev, a road trip movie directed by Lee Kirk that already has fans buzzing.

The Story: Punk Dreams on the Road

Billed as “a wild road trip comedy,” the film follows three small-town teens chasing their biggest dream—opening for Green Day. The fictional garage band, The Analog Dogs, thinks they’ve finally made it after handing over their demo tape. But plot twist—it was all a prank. Instead of giving up, the kids grab a taxi and set off from Kansas to California, dead set on making their fantasy a reality.

The Trailer: Chaos, Comedy & Green Day Classics

The teaser opens with two teens in a smoke-filled room, reminiscing about the day they “almost opened up for Green Day.” From there, the energy skyrockets, backed by the band’s 2004 anthem “Holiday.” The montage shows their chaotic road trip, from awkward adventures to full-on madness, all leading to an epic concert moment featuring Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. The screen fades out with one promise: Coming Soon.

Cast, Soundtrack & Premiere

The cast lineup is stacked, with Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Bobby Lee bringing the comedy heat. Of course, the soundtrack slaps too—packed with more than a dozen Green Day tracks for that nostalgic, rebellious energy.

The film premieres September 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival, co-produced by Green Day and Live Nation Productions.

Why Fans Should Care

If you grew up blasting American Idiot or sneaking your way into Green Day shows, New Years Rev is pure fan service. It’s equal parts throwback, road trip chaos, and punk-rock heart—a reminder that chasing your dream, no matter how messy, is always worth it.
