Leafy Not New is not just another name in the rap game—he’s an artist with a story to tell, and his music reflects that deeply personal journey. Born in Pennsylvania but raised in Indiana, Leafy’s musical style, which he calls “Ghetto Gospel,” is a powerful mix of raw emotions and street-smart wisdom. Influenced by legends like 2Pac, 50 Cent, and the iconic Michael Jackson, his sound carries both the grit of hip-hop and the soulfulness of gospel, bringing listeners into a world that is both real and reflective.
His creative process is straightforward but meaningful: “I think about events that I’ve been through or what the people around me have experienced,” Leafy explains. It’s this authenticity that gives his music depth, allowing him to connect with fans on a personal level. His latest project, “It’s Not a Myth,” is a prime example. The track was inspired by a local legend in his neighborhood—a man dubbed “The Black Houdini” by the media for his uncanny ability to evade the police. This figure, who Leafy grew up watching, became the muse for a song that paints vivid pictures of the struggles and triumphs in the hood.
Despite his roots being deeply personal, Leafy’s ambitions are broad. A major career milestone came when he collaborated with none other than Gucci Mane, delivering a track he describes as pure fire. This partnership represents the first of many big steps for an artist whose motivation comes from the heart. “I don’t make moves unless my heart’s in it,” he says, crediting the late Biggie Smalls for teaching him that principle. His faith, shaped by a childhood steeped in church, keeps him grounded, and he uses that foundation to remain authentic in a world that often pushes for conformity.
As Leafy looks ahead, he dreams of working with artists like Drake, whose music once set the perfect tone when he had company over. But more than anything, he hopes his fans take away a message of self-acceptance. “I’m not perfect, but I’m perfect to somebody,” he shares. “Be yourself—you don’t have to be like everybody else.”
