Buffalo rapper Jaydense discusses COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS, the success of “RISING,” mental health themes in his music, and working with producer Jboogz.Following the release of COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS, Buffalo artist Jaydense continues building momentum as one of the more promising emerging voices in underground hip-hop. With emotionally driven storytelling, chart success, and growing international attention, the independent rapper is pushing Buffalo’s evolving rap scene into bigger conversations. We caught up with Jaydense to discuss the inspiration behind COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS, the breakout success of “RISING,” and the chemistry behind his collaboration with Staten Island producer Jboogz.

Q: What inspired the title COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS?
Jaydense:
A lot of the album comes from overthinking, pressure, and the mental battles people go through privately. Cognitive distortions are basically irrational thought patterns that can change how somebody sees themselves or the world around them. Once I started putting the project together, I realized a lot of the music naturally centered around those emotions and experiences.
Q: “RISING” became a breakout record for you. Were you expecting that kind of response?
Jaydense:
Honestly, not at all. Seeing it reach #2 on the iTunes Top 200 Hip-Hop chart was a huge moment for me. Then hearing it was getting radio play internationally in places like Australia and France made everything feel even crazier. It showed me that people really connect with honest music, no matter where they’re from.
Q: How did your collaboration with Jboogz come together?
Jaydense:
We connected creatively pretty quickly. His production has a cinematic, emotional feel to it, and it matched the direction I wanted for the project perfectly. A lot of the songs came together naturally because we already understood the atmosphere and message we were trying to create.
Q: Buffalo’s underground scene has been gaining attention recently. How do you view the city’s hip-hop culture right now?
Jaydense:
I think Buffalo has a lot of talent and hunger right now. There are artists making real music with real stories behind it. The city’s starting to get more recognition, and I’m proud to represent where I’m from while helping push the scene forward.
Q: What do you hope listeners take away from COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS?
Jaydense:
I just want people to hear something genuine. Everybody deals with pressure, self-doubt, isolation, ambition — all of those emotions. I wanted the album to reflect those feelings honestly instead of hiding them.
With COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS now officially released, Jaydense’s rise within underground hip-hop continues gaining momentum. Between the success of “RISING,” international radio attention, and a growing fanbase drawn to his emotionally honest approach, the Buffalo artist is proving he has the potential to become one of independent rap’s next breakout names.
