The ongoing feud between DJ Akademiks and Charlamagne Tha God has taken another turn, with Charlamagne responding to accusations that he has been influenced by Jay-Z and Roc Nation.
The latest exchange comes as Jay-Z celebrates the 30th anniversary of his landmark debut album, Reasonable Doubt, through a series of pop-up events in New York City organized in partnership with Roc Nation and Apple Music.
Akademiks recently suggested that positive media coverage surrounding the anniversary celebrations was the result of media personalities allegedly being “bought out” by Jay-Z and Roc Nation. Charlamagne quickly responded—not with a direct rebuttal at first, but with humor.
In a video shared to Instagram, Charlamagne visited one of the Reasonable Doubt pop-up locations and jokingly pretended to test an employee discount, sarcastically referring to it as his “Roc Nation employee discount.” The playful post was widely interpreted as a response to Akademiks’ accusations and drew amused reactions from fellow journalists, including Rob Markman, Brian “B.Dot” Miller, and Loren LoRosa.
Charlamagne later addressed the allegations more directly during an episode of Brilliant Idiots, alongside co-host Andrew Schulz.
During the discussion, Charlamagne dismissed Akademiks’ claims and accused the media personality of hypocrisy, pointing to Akademiks’ well-known support for Drake, including his public display of an OVO chain. Charlamagne argued that celebrating Jay-Z’s achievements does not automatically suggest someone has been financially influenced and questioned the logic behind Akademiks’ accusations.
He also revealed that he and Akademiks had spoken privately not long ago, saying he was surprised by the recent criticism given their previous conversation.

The latest chapter is only one aspect of a much broader dispute between the two media figures. Tensions have also escalated over content shared by social media accounts affiliated with DJ Akademiks, including posts revisiting allegations involving Charlamagne. Akademiks has defended the decision to circulate those discussions, further intensifying the conflict between the two personalities.
As Jay-Z’s 30th anniversary celebrations continue and debate surrounding media influence remains active within hip-hop circles, there appears to be little sign that the feud between Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Akademiks will cool off anytime soon.
For now, what began as criticism over coverage of Jay-Z’s milestone has evolved into another public chapter in one of hip-hop media’s most closely watched rivalries.
