The situation eventually inspired lyrics on Latto’s new album, Big Mama, and the Atlanta rapper explained why she felt compelled to speak on it publicly.
According to Latto, the timing made the situation especially difficult because she was in the early stages of pregnancy while simultaneously working on music. She recalled rushing to record a verse for the remix of “Errtime” before later seeing comments about herself circulating online.
Latto admitted that the incident hit harder because she viewed Cardi as more than just a fellow artist.
“I looked at her as a friend,” Latto explained, noting that the two communicated privately and had each other’s phone numbers. From her perspective, a personal conversation would have felt more appropriate than public commentary.
She also revealed that Cardi eventually reached out approximately two months later, but by then, Latto felt there was little reason to revisit the situation. According to her, the two have not spoken since.
For her part, Cardi B later addressed the matter in a lengthy public statement, expressing understanding for Latto’s feelings and explaining that she never intended to hurt her.
Cardi acknowledged that her choice of words was inappropriate and said she regretted how the situation unfolded. She emphasized that she made several attempts over the following months to contact Latto directly and take responsibility for her comments.
The Bronx superstar also explained that she was dealing with her own emotional challenges at the time, including pregnancy and the pressures that came after releasing a major project. While she clarified that those circumstances did not excuse her behavior, she said they contributed to her state of mind during the incident.
According to Cardi, she reached out through multiple channels—including Latto’s manager, sister, and direct messages—in an effort to repair the relationship. However, she acknowledged that the two artists viewed resolution differently.
The exchange highlights how personal relationships within the music industry can become complicated when private disagreements become public. While both artists appear to understand each other’s perspectives, it remains unclear whether they will eventually reconcile.
