Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly common topic in music, but Kid Rock has given fans another reason to debate just how far the technology should go in the recording studio. The country-rock-rap artist recently revealed that AI played a role in creating “Heal My Faith,” his controversial collaboration with Eminem.
During an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, Kid Rock discussed the track, which appears on his new album, Halfway 2 Jesus. He explained that he handled the hook and harmonies himself but turned to AI to create the gospel choir heard on the record because his usual singers were unavailable.
According to Rock, he prompted the technology to generate lead and harmony notes with a “Southern gospel choir” sound, then worked through multiple generations to assemble the vocals he wanted. He described AI as another tool in his creative arsenal, arguing that technological changes have historically sparked similar concerns in the music industry.
Still, Rock acknowledged that artificial intelligence comes with serious risks. While defending its usefulness, he said he believes the technology needs regulation at the highest levels.
The revelation adds another layer to an already divisive collaboration. Eminem faced backlash from some fans for working with Rock, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump, after years of publicly criticizing the former president. Their longstanding friendship did little to quiet the criticism surrounding the release.
Now, the conversation has shifted beyond the artists’ politics and toward the role of AI in music production. With “Heal My Faith,” Kid Rock has placed himself in the middle of a growing debate about creativity, technology, and the future of human musicianship.
