Charlamagne Tha God, a cornerstone of “The Breakfast Club” on Power 105.1, has hinted at a possible exit from the show. Since 2010, he has co-hosted the influential morning show alongside DJ Envy, with Angela Yee until 2022, when Jess Hilarious took over.
In a revealing discussion on the Flagrant podcast, Charlamagne spoke about his future plans, noting he has a specific timeline in mind. Around the 2:15:54 mark, he stated, “I personally have a number. Not even Breakfast Club, but just being a talent period. Not a financial number.”
Though contemplating leaving “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne plans to remain in the industry, shifting his focus to behind-the-scenes roles. “I like being behind the scenes a lot more nowadays. Empowering other people, watching people get their shit off, watching other people become these great entities that people love and fuck with,” he elaborated.
Charlamagne, known for his candid and often controversial opinions, did not hold back during his podcast appearance, particularly when discussing Kanye West. He criticized West for attempting to insert himself into the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, declaring him musically irrelevant in 2024.
“Nobody cares about Kanye rapping,” Charlamagne remarked. “If Kanye had done this 10 years ago, it’s like, ‘Ooh shit, Kanye inserted himself in the beef!’ Nobody gives a fuck about Kanye rapping in 2024. Especially when the guys that are rapping are the rappers you actually want to hear from.”
Ironically, despite Charlamagne’s comments, Kanye West has recently experienced a resurgence. Earlier this year, West achieved his first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 in over a decade with “Carnival,” from his collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, “Vultures 1.” This was his first chart-topping single as a lead artist since 2007’s “Stronger,” which has since been certified diamond.
Charlamagne’s potential departure from “The Breakfast Club” signals a significant shift in his career, but his impact on the show and his contributions to the media industry are undeniable. As he prepares for new ventures, his legacy of empowering others and fostering new talent ensures that his influence will continue to resonate.
