Evan Cristo, a versatile artist and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Watts, Los Angeles, has been a force in the music world for over three decades. His artistry is best described as a fusion of alternative R&B, where he blends the rich sounds of blues, the spirit of world peace, and the raw emotions of his journey through life. “I’ve been making music since I was two years old,” Evan says, reflecting on his lifelong connection to sound.
He kicked off his musical career with Clear Vol. 1, a project that captured the essence of his sound, an expression of his world-view, and his unique ability to blend different genres. But as Evan continues to evolve, so does his approach to music. “I’m working on Medicine Man Deluxe, which will be a fresh chapter of my journey. My latest release, Medicine Man, is just the beginning.”
In his music, Evan draws inspiration from the concept of world peace. While that might sound abstract, his music is rooted in a desire to bring unity, healing, and connection through sound. His influences stretch from the peaceful vibrations of blues to the timeless works of artists like Stevie Wonder, someone Evan deeply admires and would love to collaborate with, “Stevie Wonder is the pinnacle for me. I’d love to create alongside him one day.”
As an independent artist, Evan’s path hasn’t been about waiting for a label to pick him up. Instead, he’s focused on what truly matters—creating art that is pure, authentic, and original. “I don’t rely on anyone but myself to produce my music,” he says confidently. His creative process extends to his music videos, where he designs and conceptualizes his visual stories.
The road has not always been easy, but Evan’s biggest supporters—his family and friends—are his backbone. “They keep me grounded, reminding me of my purpose.” Despite the challenges, he’s already seen the fruits of his labor, performing in front of crowds as large as 30,000 people, with one of his current collaborators being Aloe Blacc.
Looking ahead, Evan sees himself continuing to perform, tour, and expand his artistry. “In five years, I see myself on tour, reaching new heights with my music.” With his undeniable talent and unwavering commitment to authenticity, it’s clear that his journey is just beginning.
