Jermaine Dupri has crafted some of R&B’s most iconic records—but even legends catch heat from their peers. During a recent appearance on the R&B Money podcast, the So So Def founder opened up about a moment that caused serious tension with longtime collaborators Jagged Edge and Usher. The issue? His work on Dru Hill’s “In My Bed (Remix).”
According to Dupri, he wasn’t aware of the rivalry brewing between Jagged Edge and Dru Hill at the time. But once the remix dropped, the calls came flooding in. “Jagged Edge called me like, ‘What are you doing?!’” he recalled. Even Usher, who had his own close creative relationship with Dupri, phoned him up upset over the move.
Dupri said the two acts still haven’t fully let go of the situation—despite the fact that he later gave Jagged Edge another hit remix to help patch things up. While he might’ve been trying to simply spread his talents, the fallout proves that in R&B, loyalty runs deep.
