Rick Ross has never been shy about showing off his luxurious lifestyle, but the rapper’s claim that he spent $40 million on his private jet is now facing scrutiny from an industry expert.
Steve Varsano, a prominent private jet broker and the CEO of The Jet Business, recently questioned the price Ross reportedly paid for his aircraft. In a TikTok video, Varsano suggested that the Gulfstream G550 owned by the Maybach Music Group boss would cost closer to $20 million or more, rather than the $40 million figure Ross mentioned during an interview with Complex.
Although Varsano disputed the reported price, he acknowledged that the aircraft remains an impressive purchase. His comments have added a new dimension to the ongoing conversation surrounding Ross’ private jet and the rapper’s well-known displays of wealth.
Steve Varsano Questions the Price Tag
According to Varsano, Ross’ Gulfstream G550 is worth considerably less than the amount the rapper claimed to have spent. The aviation expert also discussed Ross’ approach to purchasing the plane, noting that the rapper wanted to own it outright instead of relying on financing or continuing to charter aircraft.
Ross has previously explained that he preferred to wait until he could purchase a private jet outright before making the investment. Varsano appeared to question whether that approach was necessarily the most advantageous financial decision, suggesting that it could have limited Ross’ options along the way.
Still, the disagreement over the aircraft’s price does not necessarily undermine Ross’ ownership of the jet. The figures discussed publicly may also depend on the plane’s condition, configuration, upgrades, and other associated expenses.
The Private Jet Conversation Continues
Ross’ aircraft became a talking point earlier this year after he was spotted traveling on a commercial flight. The footage prompted social media users to question why the rapper, who frequently celebrates his success and extravagant lifestyle, was not flying privately.
Ross later explained that his aircraft was undergoing upgrades, including the installation of Starlink internet. He maintained that the commercial flight was a temporary decision while work was being completed.
The rapper has since returned to showing off his aircraft, keeping the discussion around his travel arrangements alive. For an artist whose public image has long been associated with luxury cars, expansive properties, and expensive purchases, the jet has become another focal point for online commentary.
Varsano’s assessment offers an industry perspective on Ross’ reported spending, but it does not establish the exact amount the rapper paid. Regardless of whether the final figure was $20 million, $40 million, or somewhere in between, owning a Gulfstream G550 remains a significant luxury.
