For more than a decade, Roxy Vail has carved out her own lane within the alternative fashion and modeling world while using her platform to advocate for greater Black representation across the scene. Originally from St. Louis and now based in Minneapolis, Vail has been active as an alternative model since 2013, steadily building a name through her unapologetic style, creative vision, and outspoken advocacy.
Beyond modeling, Vail is also one half of the DIY alternative clothing brand Camp Buzzkill, which she launched alongside her twin sibling, London Spinelli, in 2022. The shop reflects the same rebellious spirit and individuality that have become central to her personal brand, blending fashion with self-expression and underground culture.
Throughout her career, Vail has consistently used her voice to challenge the lack of diversity often seen within alternative spaces. From spotlighting Black models and musicians to supporting designers, actors, and creatives, she has worked to encourage broader representation both online and in real-world spaces. Over the years, she has participated in interviews with independent publications where she openly discussed discrimination within the industry while also offering practical guidance for photographers working with darker skin tones and advice for aspiring models entering the scene.
One of her most impactful recent efforts came through a collaboration with Punk Black. The partnership helped create a networking-focused photo shoot meetup designed specifically for Black models, photographers, creators, and aspiring artists. The event offered participants free professional portfolio photos while also creating opportunities to connect with others in the creative community. Vail also contributed to helping local artists secure performance opportunities during the Punk Black showcase.
For Vail, fashion has always been more than aesthetics. It has served as a tool for personal storytelling and a statement of fearless individuality. Through her modeling, interviews, and clothing work, she continues to promote a message centered around unapologetic self-expression and creative freedom.
While modeling remains a major part of her career, Vail says she is constantly searching for new ways to expand her artistic reach. With ambitions that stretch beyond fashion alone, she plans to continue exploring multiple creative outlets in the years ahead.
