Legendary producer Timbaland isn’t holding back when it comes to his thoughts on today’s music landscape. In a recent interview, the hitmaker behind classics from Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, and more expressed his frustration with the current state of the industry. He described modern music as “bland” and “boring,” attributing this lack of excitement to division among artists—particularly stemming from recent political tensions.
“The election divided us,” Timbaland stated. “What I mean by that is it divided the music. The music sounds ‘bland,’ it sounds ‘boring.’”
Interestingly, while he remains unimpressed with the direction of mainstream music, Timbaland had nothing but praise for artificial intelligence. He believes AI could offer a fresh creative outlet, calling it “the only thing that has a pure soul right now.” According to him, AI allows artists to “create something and express [their] true feelings, and it comes out beautiful.”
His perspective is sure to spark debate, as AI-generated music continues to be a controversial topic in the industry. While some view it as a tool for innovation, others worry it could undermine the human touch that makes music so impactful. Either way, Timbaland’s words are bound to add fuel to the conversation about the future of artistry in an AI-driven world.
