Music Video Review: Griffin Williams releases unsettling, American Psycho-inspired visuals for new song ‘Shadows’

‘Shadows’ takes viewers into the darkest recesses of the psyche – and shows that 21-year-old Griffin Williams isn’t afraid to go to controversial places

Emerging Florida-based artist Griffin Williams recently dropped the music video for his new release, ‘Shadows’, racking up over 13,000 views in the space of just a few months.

Hailing from Gainesville, FL, Griffin Williams is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter who has steadily gained a reputation for “pushing the envelope” in modern rock and pop. Inspired by The Beatles, John Mayer, and heavier acts like Tool and Alice In Chains, Griffin’s sound is a meticulous blend of many different genres – from jazz to synth pop – with guitar-led rock being the lynchpin to his sound.

Griffin has become a breakout star online in the last 12 months. At the time of writing, he had amassed over 40,000 followers on TikTok, and his videos have gained over 8 million views. From this, Griffin has developed a loyal fanbase who have followed the development of his unique, often defiant sound.

The artist is on top form in the music video for ‘Shadows,’ which could be called a teen meet/cute love story-turned-American Pyscho horror story – with a typically gruesome ending. Under 4 minutes, Griffin and his band lash out pulsating alt-rock while the viewer witnesses voyeuristic camera angles of Griffin (doubling up as a Patrick-Bateman-type serial killer) entrapping a young woman before murdering her with an axe.

If it’s shocking, that’s kinda the point. The artist goes for the jugular and doesn’t miss.
