Cassidy Sticks Up For Eminem In Recent Interview

In a recent interview, Cassidy responded to controversial remarks made by Dr. Umar Johnson, who questioned Eminem’s place in hip-hop, attributing it to “white supremacy.” While the hip-hop world buzzed with opinions, Cassidy offered a perspective that transcends racial boundaries.

During a conversation on The Joe Budden Podcast, Dr. Umar asserted, “We gotta stop naming non-African people as being the best of any aspect of our cultural power because it is an insult.” Cassidy, however, disagreed, defending Eminem’s greatness.

“I do think Eminem is great,” Cassidy asserted. “He’s been making history over and over again, doing records with all types of races and backgrounds. It’s hard to say that he ain’t great.”

Cassidy refrained from making the debate about race, acknowledging the origins of hip-hop in Black and Spanish cultures. He argued that Eminem, having studied the culture extensively since birth, deserves recognition for his contributions, surpassing the racial context.

“It did start as Black culture; Black and Spanish people started hip-hop,” Cassidy explained. “But I feel like Eminem been studying it since he was born. He knows a lot more about the culture than the average Black person, so I feel he deserves to get a pass.”

In a world often divided along racial lines, Cassidy’s stance offers a refreshing take on the universality of greatness in hip-hop.
