ASAP Rocky’s legal battle is coming to a head. His felony assault trial is nearly over, and the jury will begin deliberating on Tuesday after a holiday break. If convicted of both counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, the rapper could face up to 24 years in prison.
Friday’s courtroom drama included closing arguments—and an appearance from Rihanna. The prosecution pointed out her presence, telling the jury not to let her or Rocky’s children sway their decision. “We are all responsible for our own actions,” said Deputy District Attorney John Lewin.
Rocky’s defense argues that the case against him isn’t solid. His lawyer, Joe Tacopina, ripped into ASAP Relli’s credibility, asking the jury, “Would you trust this guy with the most important decision of your life?” Rocky claims he never fired a gun, only carrying a prop for protection, while Relli insists he was shot at.
The verdict could change Rocky’s future, but in the meantime, he’s still gearing up for his next album, Don’t Be Dumb.
