Takeoff’s Parents Enter Legal Dispute Over Wrongful Death Settlement

A new legal battle has emerged within the family of the late Takeoff, as his parents are now at odds over the proceeds from a wrongful death lawsuit filed after the rapper’s tragic passing.

According to reports, Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, successfully obtained a settlement in a wrongful death case filed in Texas. While the financial terms of the settlement have not been made public, the outcome has sparked a separate dispute involving the rapper’s father, Kenneth Ball.

Ball is reportedly seeking half of the settlement, arguing that he is legally entitled to an equal share of the recovery as Takeoff’s father.

Davenport, however, is challenging that claim.

According to court filings, she contends that Ball was largely absent throughout Takeoff’s life and therefore should not receive the same portion of the settlement. Davenport reportedly maintains that she was the rapper’s primary caregiver, providing both financial and emotional support as he grew up and pursued a career in music.

The filings further allege that Ball contributed little to Takeoff’s upbringing, describing his financial assistance as minimal and asserting that he played only a limited role in his son’s life.

Ball, on the other hand, reportedly believes those allegations should not affect his legal rights. His position is that his status as Takeoff’s biological father entitles him to an equal share of the settlement regardless of the nature of their relationship.

In addition to disagreeing over the settlement itself, the two sides are also contesting where the dispute should be heard. Ball is reportedly seeking to have the matter resolved in Texas, while Davenport is asking the court to transfer the case to Georgia.

A judge has not yet ruled on the venue question, leaving both the location of the proceedings and the eventual distribution of the settlement unresolved.

The family dispute unfolds as the criminal case surrounding Takeoff’s death continues to move through the courts. Patrick Xavier Clark, who has been charged in connection with the rapper’s fatal shooting, is expected to stand trial later this year.

For now, the civil dispute between Takeoff’s parents remains ongoing. Until the court addresses both the venue issue and the competing claims to the settlement, the final distribution of the wrongful death award remains uncertain.

The case adds another emotional chapter to the aftermath of Takeoff’s passing, as legal proceedings continue to unfold nearly four years after the loss of one of hip-hop’s most respected artists.
