New Documentary ‘Surviving Trap Music’ Dives into Gucci Mane’s Early Days and Mental Health Journey

A new documentary titled Surviving Trap Music: The Untold Story of Gucci Mane & S.Y.S., directed and produced by South Boy, aims to shed light on the early beginnings and controversies surrounding one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. The film delves into Gucci Mane’s time with his former crew, S.Y.S., and the alleged fallout that occurred just before his breakout single “Icy.”

Members of S.Y.S. claim that the hit song was originally written by group member 4Tre — an allegation Gucci Mane denies. Associate producer Wong Lorene describes the project as “heartbreaking,” highlighting the tension between loyalty, success, and betrayal.

Co-producer Raymond Forchion promises unseen footage, rare music, and a raw look at Gucci’s rise from underground beginnings to global fame. While no release date has been announced, anticipation is growing rapidly.

The announcement follows Gucci Mane’s candid conversation on The Breakfast Club, where he opened up about his schizophrenia diagnosis and being taken advantage of by people close to him. His wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, shared that she manages his mental health episodes carefully to protect their family and business ventures.
