DJ Akademiks Calls Drake’s “For All The Dogs” a Classic, Sparks Online Debate

DJ Akademiks labeling a Drake album a classic is hardly surprising—but his latest take has still raised eyebrows, especially given the mixed reception to For All The Dogs.

Despite consistent criticism aimed at Drake’s later catalog, his legacy includes widely accepted classics like Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, and If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Still, debates continue online over how much of his extensive discography will truly stand the test of time, as some fans argue that hype has often outweighed quality.

One voice that has never wavered in Drake’s defense is Akademiks. The longtime hip-hop commentator has built a close rapport with the Toronto star and is known for his unwavering loyalty. Over the weekend, Akademiks reignited discourse by declaring For All The Dogs a full-fledged classic—despite its lukewarm critical response. He even went a step further, calling it “one of the best breakup albums ever.”

In a clip shared by Akademiks TV, he passionately lip-synced to “Virginia Beach,” praising Drake’s ability to consistently connect with listeners on a personal level. “This why Drake the greatest,” he said. “It’s like the n**** know me, gang!” Akademiks added that since 2009, Drake has always had at least one song that spoke directly to his own life.

While many fans appreciate that level of relatability, Akademiks’ reputation has made his praise an easy target for ridicule online. Still, he doubled down on his stance, insisting that Drake’s next release will only further cement his legacy.

Akademiks has also been fueling anticipation for Drake’s upcoming album Iceman, tweeting enthusiastically that it’s arriving “very soon.” “ICEMAN SO SOON! MY GOAT ALWAYS DELIVERS!” he wrote, echoing similar posts he’s shared in recent weeks.

Although Drake has yet to announce an official release date, Akademiks’ confidence has fans speculating that Iceman could arrive during the colder months. Whether or not For All The Dogs ultimately earns classic status, one thing remains certain: DJ Akademiks isn’t backing down from his belief that Drake is—and will continue to be—the G.O.A.T.
