GloRilla Donates $25,000 to Alma Mater for State-of-the-Art Media Center

GloRilla is using her success to inspire and uplift others, returning to her alma mater, Melrose High School in Memphis’ Orange Mound neighborhood, with a generous $25,000 donation. On December 18, the rapper announced her contribution would fund the creation of the Gloria H. Woods Media Center—a modern facility named after her real name. This heartfelt gesture marks a full-circle moment for the artist, who once roamed the same school halls.

The $25,000 donation will go toward several transformative projects. A significant portion will be used to redesign the school’s library into a collaborative, student-friendly space with contemporary seating and allergen-free carpets. The upgrade aims to create a welcoming environment that fosters learning and creativity.

Reflecting on her school days, GloRilla expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to give back. “To be able to create something I wished for growing up warms my heart,” she shared with students during her visit, which felt like an early Christmas gift for many. The rapper’s investment extends beyond financial contributions—it’s a testament to her commitment to education, innovation, and empowerment for future generations.

In addition to the media center, the funds will modernize learning tools by upgrading the school’s software, giving students access to advanced technology for research and productivity. The donation will also support the launch of the GloRilla Mentorship Program, offering field trips, personal development opportunities, and direct video chats with the artist herself.

GloRilla’s generosity doesn’t stop at academics. She allocated $2,500 to the Melrose Clothes Closet, providing toiletries and clothing for students in need. Another $2,500 will be directed to the Office of Family Engagement, aimed at strengthening ties between families and the school community.

Set to open next summer, the Gloria H. Woods Media Center represents hope and possibility for Melrose High students. For them, GloRilla isn’t just a superstar—she’s living proof that dreams can come true, and success is most meaningful when shared.

This act of giving caps off an incredible year for GloRilla, who secured two Grammy nominations in 2024 for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. She first gained recognition in 2023 with her breakout hit, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go),” earning her first Grammy nomination. Through her music and philanthropy, GloRilla continues to shine as a beacon of inspiration.
