LeBron James and his son, Bronny, have officially addressed the lawsuit filed against them concerning a car accident that allegedly occurred in November 2022. In the lawsuit, April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillien claim that the James duo “negligently owned, controlled, repaired, entrusted, maintained, and operated an automobile,” leading to an accident. The suit also notes that McGillien was driving at the time, while Lopez is the owner of the vehicle.
The plaintiffs allege that the accident caused them injuries requiring medical treatment, in addition to the loss in value of the car. Lopez and McGillien filed the lawsuit back in October, just one day after LeBron and Bronny made history by playing together on the court for the first time as members of the Los Angeles Lakers.
In response to the claims, LeBron and Bronny have denied all allegations, asserting that they were not responsible for any damages. The father-son duo’s legal team has requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit and has called for them to be reimbursed for the costs incurred from defending the case.
While the legal proceedings continue, LeBron has remained focused on his NBA career, continuing to perform at the highest level on the court, while Bronny, after his rookie season, has spent time with the Lakers’ South Bay G-League affiliate. This response comes at a time when the James family has been navigating both legal challenges and professional milestones.
As the lawsuit unfolds, LeBron and Bronny are determined to focus on their basketball careers, with the father-son duo continuing to make waves in the NBA.
