On ‘LIETOME,’ super producer Jay Vee bridges the difficult gap between atmospheric synth soundscapes and genuinely emotive lyrics and vocals.
LA-based producer, writer, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Vee has shared his new release ‘LIETOME,’ as he looks to extend his run of being one of the most evocative producers working on the West Coast now.
Noted for his unique sounds – steeped in 808s but with pianos and guitars serving as a key lynchpin – Jay Vee has become a rapid mover within the music industry in recent months. Not only has he produced for highly touted emerging artists like BONES, Travis Barker, and rapper Lil West, he has also amassed a staggering 10 million+ streams across online platforms, with songs like ‘Church’ and ‘Fine Wine, Long Life’ securing his reputation.
Speaking about his music – and about his collaborations with some of his key musical contributors like nothingnowhere and guccihighwaters – Jay Vee says: “My creative approach to production emphasizes immersive soundscapes and emotional resonance, resulting in tracks that capture the essence of the collaborators’ experiences.”
That idea of an “immersive soundscape” hits you instantly on ‘LIETOME.” The song leads with a deceptively simple piano melody that packs its weight in emotion before layering things with atmospheric synths and bass kicks. After suggestive lyrics pleading for an unnamed person to “fake love” and “lie tonight”, the song builds up to a glorious, shimmering synthy wall of sound which is surprising in how emotionally resonant it is.
There’s a lot to love with Jay Vee’s music. On songs like ‘LIETOME,’ you hear everything from Cloud rap to ambient muzak, from vaporwave to EDM. He somehow manages to thread a needle through various styles and arrive with his unique genre.
